The Setup Wizard is six screens: Welcome, Account & MLS Connection, Field Mapping, Import Configuration, Test Import, and Success. It opens on its own after activation, and you can reopen it any time from MLS Import Settings → Setup Wizard.
Below is what each screen asks for and what it does with the answer.
Step 1: Welcome
An intro screen with a System Requirements Check table underneath it. The table reads your server and reports four things: PHP version, memory limit, max execution time, and theme compatibility.
A warning icon on a row does not stop you. The screen says so, and the Start the Wizard button works either way. Two rows are worth reading carefully.
- Theme Compatibility flags any theme that is not WP Residence, Houzez, Real Homes, or WP Estate. If you plan to run Standalone mode, that warning does not apply to you and you can move on.
- Memory Limit is the row to take seriously. Imports are the heavy part of this plugin, and a low limit is the most common reason a large import stops part way.
Step 2: Account & MLS Connection
The screen that does the real work. It collects two separate logins on one page: your mlsimport.com account, and your MLS credentials.
- Enter MLSImport.com Username (not your email) and MLSImport.com Password, then click Save account.
- Type your MLS name into the Your MLS search field and pick it from the suggestions.
- Fill in the credential fields your MLS platform uses, and leave the rest blank.
- Pick your theme in Your WordPress Theme.
- Click Save MLS.
Two status banners sit at the top of this screen, one for the account and one for the MLS. The Continue button on this step stays disabled until both report a successful connection. That is deliberate: nothing further in the wizard works without both.
Step 3: Field Mapping
This is where you choose which MLS fields get imported and where each one lands in your property structure. Every field MLSImport already has a standard RESO mapping for comes pre-selected, so a default setup is usable without touching anything.
If the screen says We need to gather some information about your MLS. Please Stand By!, the plugin is still downloading your MLS field list. That is normal on a first run, and the field selector appears once it completes. If instead it says you are not connected to MLS Import, go back to step 2.
Field selection applies to listings imported after you save it, so spend a minute here rather than later. Adding a field after 5,000 listings have arrived means re-importing them to fill it in.
Step 4: Import Configuration
You name your first import and set the filters that decide which listings it brings in: price range, property types, and cities. The city and property type lists are built from your own MLS, so they show the real values your feed uses.
Saving this step creates a real Import Task, which then appears under Import Tasks in your admin. It is not a wizard-only object. You can open it later and change or extend it.
Step 5: Test Import
The wizard shows how many listings match your filters, then offers Run Test Import, which brings in five of them. Five is enough to prove the connection, the field mapping, and your theme all work together, and small enough to finish in under a minute on most servers.
If Listings Found shows 0, the button does not appear and the screen offers a link back to step 4 so you can widen the filters.
Step 6: Success
Click Complete Setup and the wizard marks itself finished and drops you on MLS Import Settings. From here on, everything the wizard set up is editable from the normal admin screens.
The footer of every wizard screen has a Restart Setup button. It clears the wizard’s saved answers and starts you at Welcome again. It does not delete your credentials or any listings you have imported, so it is a safe way out of a wizard that has got itself confused.
Frequently asked questions
Can I skip the wizard and configure everything by hand?
Yes. Every wizard screen has a permanent equivalent: credentials and theme on the MLS/RESO Api Options tab, fields on Select Import fields, and imports under Import Tasks. The wizard is an ordered path through those screens, not a separate system.
The Continue button on the connection step will not click.
It is disabled on purpose until both banners at the top of that screen report success. Check which of the two is still failing. An account failure points at your mlsimport.com username or password, an MLS failure points at your MLS credentials or your MLS approval.
I closed the wizard part way through. Did I lose my progress?
No. Each step saves when you leave it, and the wizard remembers which step you were on. Reopen it from MLS Import Settings → Setup Wizard and it resumes where you stopped.
Can I run the wizard again later?
Yes, and it is harmless. Running it again re-saves the same settings unless you change them. Use Restart Setup in the footer if you want it to forget its previous answers and start clean.
