Connecting your MLS means three things on one screen: find your MLS in the Your MLS search field, fill in the credential fields that belong to your MLS platform, and click Save MLS. The screen then tells you whether the connection worked.
The credentials come from your MLS, not from us, and your MLS has to have approved your API access before any of this can succeed.
Finding your MLS in the list
The Your MLS field is a search box, not a dropdown you scroll. Start typing the name of your MLS and matching entries appear underneath. Click the right one to select it.
Search by the name your MLS uses for itself. Abbreviations and full names both tend to work, so try both if the first attempt finds nothing.
If your MLS genuinely is not there, the note under the field points you to support, and that is the correct next step. Some MLSs need activating on our side before they appear, which is a request we handle rather than something you can configure.
Filling in the credentials your platform uses
Picking your MLS is what decides which credential fields you see. The screen carries a field set for every platform MLSImport supports, and it shows only the set belonging to the MLS you selected, hiding the rest. So the fields in front of you after selecting your MLS are the ones to fill in.
- Bridge Interactive, Spark, and other token platforms. One value goes in Your API Server token.
- CoreLogic Trestle. Two values, in Your Trestle Client ID and Your Trestle Client Secret.
- Bright MLS. Two values, in Your BrightMLS Client ID and Your BrightMLS Client Secret.
- ConnectMLS. A username and a password, in their own two fields.
- Rapattoni, Paragon, and Realtor.ca. Each has its own labelled set of fields.
Every field label names the platform it belongs to, so the correct fields are the ones carrying your platform’s name. If you see the wrong platform’s fields, the MLS selected above them is the wrong one. Select the MLS first, then fill in what appears.
If your MLS portal offers more than one delivery method, choose the Web API option. Trestle in particular lists several. Web API is the one MLSImport reads, and a feed set up for a different delivery method will not connect no matter how correct the credentials are.
Saving and what the screen tells you next
Click Save MLS after entering the credentials. The plugin then tests the connection and updates the banners at the top of the screen.
A successful connection reads You are connected to your MLS. A failure reads that the connection was not successful and asks you to check the token and check that your MLS Data Access Application is approved. Both halves of that message matter. A correct token still fails if the approval has not come through.
When the connection will not succeed
- The approval is not finished. Credentials often get issued while the dataset access request is still pending. Ask your MLS to confirm your access is active, not only that an account exists.
- The credential was copied with extra characters. A trailing space or a line break comes along with many copy operations and is invisible in the field.
- The value is for a different product. MLS portals issue keys for several things. Confirm the one you were given is for RESO Web API access.
- The wrong platform’s fields were filled in. A Trestle client ID pasted into the server token field cannot work, because the plugin sends each credential type the way its own platform expects.
Get the connection green before moving on, even though the wizard would let you keep clicking. Field mapping reads your MLS’s field list, and that list cannot be fetched until the MLS connection works. A failed connection here shows up as an empty field selector two screens later.
Frequently asked questions
My MLS is not in the search list. What now?
Contact support with the MLS name and the platform it uses. Some MLSs need to be activated on our side before they appear in the list, and in many cases we can add one. Access and credentials still have to come from the MLS itself.
Which fields do I fill in if my MLS uses Trestle?
Only Your Trestle Client ID and Your Trestle Client Secret. Leave Your API Server token and every other platform’s fields empty. The plugin picks the authentication method from the MLS you selected, not from which fields you filled.
I have the credentials and they are correct, but it still fails.
The usual cause is approval rather than credentials. Ask your MLS to confirm that your Web API data access request is approved and active for your domain. Until it is, the platform issues credentials that are not yet permitted to return listings.
Do I need to re-enter the credentials later?
No, they are saved on your site. You only return to this screen if your MLS reissues them, which normally happens when a token is rotated or your access is renewed under new terms.
