Some MLS fields are for home buyers. They describe the house. Other fields are only for agents. They say how to set up a showing or how to get into the home.
MLSImport keeps these private agent fields off your site on its own. You do not have to set anything up.
It covers private showing contacts, showing notes, lockbox details, door codes, and private remarks. Your listing agent and office details still show.
Which fields are blocked?
MLSImport blocks these MLS fields:
- Showing notes:
ShowingInstructions - Showing contacts:
ShowingContactName,ShowingContactPhone,ShowingContactPhoneExt,ShowingContactType - Lockbox details:
LockBoxType,LockBoxLocation,LockBoxSerialNumber - Door codes:
AccessCode - Private remarks:
PrivateRemarks,PrivateOfficeRemarks
Your MLS may send only some of these fields. That is fine. MLSImport blocks each one it finds.
Will my listing agent’s contact details disappear?
No. The showing contact is a private person who handles showings. The listing agent is the public agent on the property page. They are not the same.
The listing agent’s name, work phone, email, and office name are not on the blocked list. They still show if your MLS sends them and your settings display them.
ShowingRequirements is not blocked either. It holds general notes like “Appointment Only.” It does not hold door codes or steps to get into the home.
What changes in the import settings?
The blocked fields no longer appear in the list of MLS fields you can pick. You do not need to turn anything on or uncheck them one by one.
Old settings cannot bring them back. Say you picked one of these fields before, or linked it to a custom field or a category. MLSImport now skips it when it saves new extra fields.
There is no screen to edit the blocked list.
How does it work in standalone mode?
In standalone mode, MLSImport builds its own property pages and stores its own listings.
MLSImport skips the blocked fields when it saves new listing data. It also hides them on the property page, so they never show in Listing Information or Other Details. This holds even for values you imported before the update.
The update does not delete those old values from the database. It only hides them.
How does it work with a real estate theme?
This covers WPResidence, WpEstate, Houzez, and Real Homes.
The blocked fields no longer appear in the field list, and MLSImport does not save them as new extra fields.
Links your theme already uses stay in place. For example, WPResidence saves PrivateRemarks in its private owner_notes field. That still works.
Check your old theme data. Your theme may still hold values saved before the update, in a custom field or an extra feature. Blocking new imports does not erase them, and it does not change how your theme shows them.
If you imported showing notes, lockbox details, or door codes before:
- Open a few of your public property pages and look for that information.
- Check your theme’s custom fields.
- Turn off any public display of it in your theme settings.
There is no cleanup button. If you need help finding old values, contact MLSImport support.
Why do I still see a private field with a different name?
MLSImport only blocks the exact field names listed above. Your MLS may use its own name for the same kind of data. MLSImport also does not read the listing description to look for private details.
If you find a field like this, do not show it on your site, and send support the field name. You do not need to send the real door code or any private seller details. The field name is enough.
Can a private agent site change the list?
Yes. A developer can change the list with the mlsimport_agent_only_fields WordPress filter. Use it only on a private site where agents must log in.
The filter only changes which fields are blocked. It does not add an agent login, check who is an agent, or lock any page. Your private site must already do those things. A normal public property site should keep the default list.
For developers: the default list is the MLSIMPORT_AGENT_ONLY_FIELDS constant in includes/mlsimport-agent-only-fields.php. Field selection, extra fields, standalone saving, and standalone property pages all use the same filtered list. Add your filter early. MLSImport reads the field settings once per page load and reuses them, so a filter added later has no effect. A small must-use plugin in wp-content/mu-plugins/ is a safe place for it.
The filter gets the list of blocked field names. Return the list you want. This example lets ShowingInstructions show again and blocks one more field that your MLS names in its own way:
add_filter( 'mlsimport_agent_only_fields', function ( $fields ) {
// Show this field again.
$fields = array_diff( $fields, array( 'ShowingInstructions' ) );
// Block a field your MLS names in its own way.
$fields[] = 'XYZ_GateCode';
return $fields;
} );
To turn off all blocking, return an empty list:
add_filter( 'mlsimport_agent_only_fields', '__return_empty_array' );
Do I need to import my properties again?
In standalone mode, no. Once you install the update, the blocked fields are hidden from your property pages.
With a theme, a new import does not fix old data. The update stops new values from being saved. It does not remove old values from your theme or your page layout, so you still need to check them as shown above.
Found a private field we do not block? Send us the field name and your MLS and we will add it.
