The Category Slider block shows taxonomy terms as image tiles in a sliding row: cities, property types, neighbourhoods or any of the eleven lists. Each tile links to that term’s archive page.
You pick the exact terms to show. It does not choose them for you, and it shows nothing at all until you have picked at least one.
Before you start
Give each term a featured image first. Open the taxonomy under MLS Properties, edit a term, and set its Featured image. A term with no image renders as a plain tile.
Choosing the terms
The block has one picker per taxonomy: Property Types, Listing Types, Statuses, Cities, Areas, Counties, States, ZIP Codes, High School Districts, Features and Labels.
Pick terms from as many pickers as you like and they combine into one row. Pick two cities and you get two tiles, in the order they were picked.
Show listing count adds an under title line reading how many listings that term holds. It is a display option, not a limit on how many tiles appear, which is the one thing people misread about this block.
Appearance options
Design type offers three tile treatments. Items per row is 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6, defaulting to 3, and sets how many tiles are visible before the row slides.
The rest is fine adjustment: Item height as any CSS length defaulting to 260px, Gap, Border radius, Interior text padding, Title bottom margin, Tagline bottom margin, Title font size and Title color, which defaults to white because the title sits over the image.
As a shortcode

In the block editor and Elementor
In the block editor, add Category Slider from the MLSImport group. Each taxonomy picker in the sidebar loads its own terms.
In Elementor, drag Category Slider from MLSImport Widgets. The pickers are searchable there, which is worth having when a taxonomy holds hundreds of terms.
Use a landscape image of the place or the property style, not a logo. The tile is wider than it is tall and crops to fill, so a square image with detail at the edges loses it.
If it does not work
- Nothing renders. No terms are picked. The block deliberately shows nothing rather than guessing which terms you meant.
- Tiles are grey or empty. Those terms have no featured image. Set one on each term you display.
- A term is missing from the picker. No imported listing carries that value yet, so the term does not exist. Terms are created by the import, not in advance.
- The count reads zero. The term exists but no published property carries it, which happens after listings are deleted but before the term is cleaned up.
Frequently asked questions
Can it show every city automatically?
No. Every tile is an explicit choice, which is deliberate: an automatic list would put every ZIP code your feed touches on your home page.
Can I change the tile wording without changing the search?
Yes. Rename the term itself under MLS Properties. The tile shows the term name, and the import keeps matching on the underlying value.
What is the difference between this and Display Categories?
This one slides, the other one is a static grid. The term picking is identical.
Where does the tile link to?
The term’s own archive page, which lists every property carrying it with the search bar you configured in the design settings.
