The Display Categories block shows taxonomy terms as image tiles in a static grid. It is the same tiles as the Category Slider, laid out as a block of rows rather than a sliding strip.
Use it when the terms are a destination in their own right, for example a Browse by City section, and you want them all visible without interaction.
Before you start
Set a Featured image on each term you plan to show. Open the taxonomy under MLS Properties, edit the term, and set the image. A term without one renders as a plain tile.
Choosing the terms
One picker per taxonomy: Property Types, Listing Types, Statuses, Cities, Areas, Counties, States, ZIP Codes, High School Districts, Features and Labels. Picks from several pickers combine into one grid, and the grid shows exactly what you picked.
Show listing count adds a line under each title reading how many listings that term holds.
Layout options
Design type offers three tile treatments, and Items per row is 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6, defaulting to 4.
Display as auto grid switches from a fixed column count to a grid that fits as many tiles per row as the width allows. Unit minimum width, defaulting to 220 pixels, is how narrow a tile is allowed to get before the row drops one.
The rest is fine adjustment: Gap, Item height as a CSS length defaulting to 220px, Interior text padding, Title font size, Title color defaulting to white, and Border radius. Border width and Border color apply to design 3 only.
Auto grid is the better choice when the number of tiles changes over time. A fixed four per row leaves an awkward single tile on the last row as soon as you add a fifth city, while auto grid rebalances itself.
As a shortcode
[mlsimport_category_list mlsimport_property_type="condominium,single-family-residence" per_row="4"]
Each taxonomy is an attribute of its own name, taking a comma separated list of term slugs.
In the block editor and Elementor
In the block editor, add Display Categories from the MLSImport group and use the per taxonomy pickers in the sidebar.
In Elementor, drag Display Categories from MLSImport Widgets, where the pickers are searchable.
If it does not work
- Nothing renders. No terms are picked. This block never guesses.
- Tiles have no image. Those terms have no featured image set.
- The border settings do nothing. They apply to design 3 only. Switch the design or leave them alone.
- Tiles are different heights. Set Item height explicitly, since tiles size to their content otherwise.
Frequently asked questions
Can I mix cities and property types in one grid?
Yes. Picks from different taxonomies land in the same grid. Whether that reads well to a visitor is a design question, not a technical one.
Can I reorder the tiles?
They follow the order you picked them in. Clear the picker and pick again in the order you want.
Why is a term I use missing from the picker?
Terms are created by the import, so a value no imported listing carries does not exist yet. Import a listing carrying it and the term appears.
Does the tile count include unpublished properties?
No. It counts published properties only, which is why a term can read zero shortly after listings are removed.
