You already pay for MLS access. This puts those listings on your own site, on your own domain, in the theme you already chose.
Is my own site worth it if my brokerage gives me one?
Yes. Your own site can be worth it when it adds useful local help and gives you more control. Check what you already get before you pay twice. Read how to use a brokerage page and your own site together, with checks for Canadian agents.
How can my website look active when I have no listings yet?
Show homes buyers can browse, share what you know about your area, and make it easy to reach you. You do not need your own listings to build a useful site. MLS Import can add approved MLS listings to WordPress while you build the rest.
Start with these pieces:
- A home search labeled “Homes for sale in [your area].”
- A short bio with your photo, brokerage, service area, and contact details.
- One local guide with your own photos and checked facts.
- A dated market note or an open house you have permission to host.
- A clear link to book a buyer call.
Keep the listing firm’s name and all notices your MLS requires. Put your own listings in a separate section when you have them. Use real reviews only. Label praise from a past job so buyers know what it covers.
Add market listings before you win your first listing
Use MLS Import to pull the homes your MLS lets you show onto your WordPress site. Start with one area you serve. Your broker and board handle approval. MLS Import handles the listing import and updates once you have the feed details.
- Ask your broker and MLS what you need to show other firms’ listings.
- Follow the MLS connection steps. They also explain why a site may show only your own homes.
- Choose your site setup: a supported theme or standalone mode (see “What setup looks like” below).
- Choose an area and price range your buyers need. A filter for only your agent ID may show no homes before you have a listing.
- Run a small test. Check prices, photos, listing firm names, and required notices.
- Open the search on your phone and send a test inquiry. Check that it reaches you.
How soon can listings show up on my site?
Listings can show up after your MLS grants access and you finish setup. Ask the board for its timing first. Test the feed and a small set of homes before you plan your launch. The time needed for your site depends on approval, hosting, and any design work.
Will adding listings prove that I am busy or bring me leads?
No. Listings give buyers homes to browse. They do not show how many homes you have sold or promise new leads. Add your own local notes, keep them dated, and give buyers a clear way to call you. Track real inquiries to see what helps.
Why bother, when the portals already have the listings
Because on a portal your listing sits next to four competitors and a lead-capture form that is not yours. On your own site it does not. The listings are the same data. The difference is whose phone rings.
What you get
- Your market, on your domain. Over 800 MLS markets across the US and Canada, connected over the modern RESO Web API rather than a legacy RETS feed or an iframe.
- Only the listings you want. Filter by city, county or ZIP, price range, property type, status, and by agent or office MLS ID. Your own listings only, your office, or the whole market. Save it as a task and reuse it.
- Kept current without you. Hourly sync pulls what changed. Daily reconciliation removes what left the MLS, so you are never showing a house that sold three weeks ago.
- Photos that cost you nothing. Images serve from the MLS or its CDN. Nothing is downloaded, so your hosting bill does not move.
- Pages search engines can read. Real WordPress pages with clean permalinks and JSON-LD schema, not an embedded frame.
- Leads that reach you. Contact forms, sidebar lead forms and Schedule-a-Tour requests, all in one pipeline, with spam protection.

For buyer leads, you also need a plan to get people to your site and help them take the next step. Use this Canadian website checklist for buyer leads to plan the local guides, forms, follow-up, and costs around your listings.
What setup looks like
A six-step wizard: verify your account, pick your MLS from a type-ahead list, enter and live-test your credentials, choose your fields, run a test import. Nothing touches your live site until you are happy with the sample. Most people are done in an afternoon, and full assistance with the setup is included.
Did an AI tool build your site? First check whether it runs on WordPress. Here’s how to add MLS homes to a site an AI tool built.
If you run WpResidence, Houzez, Real Homes or WpEstate there is a deep integration waiting. If you run anything else, standalone mode gives you a full listings front end on top of the theme you have. No rebuild.
What it costs
