Historically, this wasn’t always the case. Decades ago, not all members had access to every listing, leading to discrimination against women and minority brokers. Thankfully, those days are behind us, thanks to leaders who worked tirelessly to make the system more inclusive and fair.

Recently, there’s been talk about dismantling the MLS or turning it into a regulated utility. Such changes could have severe consequences for both realtors and consumers. The current system allows realtors to focus on serving their clients effectively by leveraging a transparent marketplace.
If we lose this system, buyers and sellers will suffer the most. Without the MLS, finding properties would become chaotic. Imagine having to visit multiple websites just to find available listings—it would be inefficient and confusing.
The Role of Buyer Agents
Buyer agents play a critical role in this ecosystem. They help buyers navigate the complexities of the market, especially when multiple offers are involved. Without them, many buyers would struggle to find suitable properties or understand how to make competitive offers.
Despite some agencies questioning their value, buyer agents are essential consumer watchdogs who protect buyers’ interests. They provide professional guidance that can make or break a deal.
